The City of Grand Forks and FYiFM provide a convenient and innovative method for educating tourists about the city's great history with an "Historical Radio Driving Tour".
Tourists drive to each "Talking Building" which contain a FYiFM radio transmitter. They tune their car FM radios to 107.1 FM and listen as the building itself provides an entertaining and educational historical narrative. Local businesses are allowed to place small audio advertisments along with each audio message as well. This not only provides funding to cover the cost of the project but additional revenue in future years for the Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce as well.
